FIELD NOTES / PILOT TACTICS

Boost with a plan. Fight from a better angle.

Use movement to manage distance, break a line of fire, and create your next opening.

Two Night mechs fight in the air above the desert

Boosting makes a mech feel powerful, but spending the entire meter to reach an opponent can leave you with few choices when the exchange turns against you. Treat movement as part of your loadout: something you use to set up a fight and to leave it.

Pick a destination before you accelerate

Look for the next useful position: the corner of a building, a firing lane, or a place where only one opponent can see you. Boost toward that position rather than simply holding forward until you reach the enemy.

In open terrain, the same idea still helps. Changing your approach and keeping some distance can reduce the time you spend travelling in a predictable line. Your goal is to arrive with an option left over.

Save enough movement to react

Before you commit, glance at the boost meter. If it is nearly empty, a pause behind cover may be more useful than a small burst into the open. Give yourself room to dodge, cross a gap, or pull out of an exchange.

There is no single boost pattern that fits every weapon. A close-range setup asks you to create a safe approach. A longer-range setup benefits from finding space and protecting it. Experiment with distance while keeping the same weapon so you can feel the difference.

Use height to change the question

Jumping and hovering can reveal an angle that was blocked at ground level. They also make you visible from new directions and spend boost. Before climbing, consider where you will land and what will protect you when you come down.

A short change in height can be enough. You do not need to remain airborne for the whole fight to make an opponent adjust. Return to cover when your next useful action is reloading or waiting for a clearer opportunity.

Break contact when the situation changes

If another opponent joins the exchange, reassess it. Pulling back can turn a confusing fight into one where you can see the threats again. In team battles, moving toward a useful angle near your AI ally can be more practical than pursuing an enemy alone.

Battle Royale adds another reason to reposition: the safe area closes. Check the battlefield before chasing a distant target. Surviving the route to your next position is part of winning the match.

Try one movement exercise

For your next match, choose one rule: move between shots, save boost for retreat, or check your landing spot before jumping. Notice whether it gives you more control over the next exchange. Keep what helps, then build on it.

For the inputs and equipment slots, see the controls guide. To compare the pressure of different battle types, read the game modes guide.

Put it into practice.

Take Night into a battle and try one new idea on your next deployment.
